Operation Warm 2013
Grand Island Firefighters and Police Team Up For Operation Warm
Local firefighters and police are joining forces to combat cold this winter. On Friday, December 13 at 10:00 A.M. a Coats For Kids event will be taking place at Lincoln Elementary school in Grand Island, NE. This program is being put on by the International Association of Firefighters Local647 and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 24 in association with Operation Warm (OW), whose mission is to provide NEW, American-made winter coats to disadvantaged children in communities all over North America.
Coats For Kids serves boys and girls, ages 3-11, from low-income families who are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program at school and/or live in a family with an income level at or below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines. This year 60 children in need will receive new, top-quality coats in a variety of styles and colors with “Made Especially for You” tags inside.
This will be the first year of Coats For Kids in Grand Island, however local coordinators hope to see it become it become an annual event.
